The Big Upsetter

A Fuckhead show is more than just watching a band that plays music. It’s actionism, performance art, improvisation, physical strain, nudity, and – more often than not – also a huge mess. Founded in 1988 in Linz by the brothers Didi and Christian Bruckmayr as an industrial duo Fuckhead is now a four-piece group that keeps exploring the limits of stage performance. It might be shocking or too extreme for some when Fuckhead strain a rope from one orifice of the body to another and simultaneously play a mix of electronic, noise and industrial music, but it most definitely leaves an impression on you that you won’t forget. We meet the guys at Kapu in Linz, the venue of their first ever show, and talk about how it all began and why their live debut wasn’t fully appreciated by the audience of punks. Fuckhead then start into a short but intense performance including ecstatic, six-minute-long spinning and a live version of the energetic “The Big Upsetter”.
